Why They Hate Us

If you want to have a better understanding of what are the roots of hatred against American policies in the middle East -and Iran- during the last 50 years check out this interview with 'New York Times' Correspondent Stephen Kinzer by clicking here

He's the author of the new book, All The Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror.

It's about the 1953 CIA coup in Iran that put an end to democratic rule, and in turn led the way for the Islamic Revolution of 1979. He writes, "It was the first time the United States overthrew a foreign government. It set a pattern for years to come and shaped the way millions of people view the United States."

FROM THE DESK Of Juanita

Dear Members,

I know you have received a number of Coalition emails to date, but I believe this is one of the most important emails the Coalition has sent out in a long time.

A member who attended our presentation on the USA Patriot Act inquired about the DynCorp store front a few doors down from the Trent River Coffee House. He seemed to recall this company as one responsible for some historically despicable acts and wondered why we hadn't exposed them.

Not knowing anything about DynCorp, I did a little research. What I found made me more than ill...
Please take a moment click here

When you have had the opportunity to peruse the page, be sure to click on the "DynCorp in Iraq" mercenary for hire site here.

These people are sitting right here in New Bern. Who's up for letting our community know what DynCorp is all about?

[Note: Doc. sent in the following article. It deals with the very serious and ongoing WAR against the Environment by the current Bush administration-WNS]

Bush Continues War on Enviroment

The Bush administration has recently announced plans to gut the widely
popular Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which protects 58.5 million
acres of pristine national forests from most logging and road-building,
and to radically change the way our national forests are currently
managed by changing the National Forest Management Act.

If we're going to stop the Bush administration from letting the timber
industry destroy our last wild forests, we need to take action. We
expect Congress to vote soon on two amendments that would protect our
national forests from these harmful proposals put forward by the Bush
administration.

Please take a moment to ask your U.S. Representative to stand up for our
last wild forests. Then, ask your family and friends to help by
forwarding this e-mail to them.

The Bush administration recently announced plans to gut the widely
popular Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which protects 58.5 million
acres of pristine national forests from most logging and road-building.
The administration's proposal would exempt Alaska's Tongass Rainforest –
America's largest national forest – from the Roadless Rule and would
allow state governors to seek exemptions for forests in their states,
giving governors decision-making power over natural treasures owned by
all Americans.

The Bush administration has also proposed new regulations for the
National Forest Management Act that would radically change the way our
national forests are managed. The proposed regulations would weaken
environmental and wildlife protections and limit public involvement.
These proposed regulations are nothing more than another handout to the
timber industry that could lead to increased logging of our last wild
forests.

If we're going to stop the Bush administration from letting the timber
industry destroy our last wild forests, we need to take action. We
expect Congress to vote soon on two amendments that would protect our
national forests from the harmful proposals put forward by the Bush
administration. The Roadless Area Conservation Amendment would protect
roadless areas in our national forests from road-building and logging
and the Tom Udall amendment would stop the attack on the National Forest
Management Act.

Please take a moment to ask your representative to stand up for our last
wild forests. Then, ask your family and friends to help by forwarding
this e-mail to them.

Your PATRIOT ACT in action:

I'm sure everyone recalls the young Muslim men from Buffalo who were arrested with so much media hype last year, and charged with being terrorists. Their crime, it seems, was to have gone to Afghanistan prior to 9/11. Although they were represented by defense attorneys (unlike many alleged terrorists being held by Ashcroft & Co.) they were forced to plead guilty. Why? Because the government made it clear that if they didn't plead, they would be reclassified as "enemy combatants" and would not be tried, just imprisoned indefinitely. The Washington Post today has a very good article about this case entitled "No Choice but Guilty." You can read it at The Washington Post

Underhill Withdraws!

The Sun Journal is reporting that Fr. State Rep Alice Underhill withdrew her name from consideration as a candidate for the DEMS slot in November because of “demands such a job would put on her family”.

What a pity. I saw Mrs. Underhill at two Dems meeting and she seems articulate and very knowledgeable.

[This is what we are all about. Our roadmap to 2004, if you will. Please zip your comments to (place holder)]

We believe that America is in crisis. And to quote a call to arms from an era long ago “it is the time for all good citizens to come to the aid of their country”. We invite you to join us in working to defeat George W. Bush in November 2004, thereby assuring that America will remain the constitutional democracy we all love and cherish. We act in the belief that all across our country, millions of Americans who share our values are working together to defeat Bush and elect a Democrat in 2004. While we realize that we are small in number, we believe that by working together, we can make a difference in our small corner of the world.

We suggest that the focus of our goal be the education and enrollment of people who are likely non-voters in 2004. This would be accomplished by capturing the votes of:

- Young people through active outreach at local junior colleges designed to explain the ways the Bush administration has harmed and threatened the future of young Americans. (If the situation in Iraq is not positively resolved soon, we think there will be increasing interest among the young in learning about alternatives to the current government’s policies.)

- Elderly people, many of whom traditionally vote for Democrats, by explaining the danger posed to Social Security and Medicare by the current administration. The GOP will attempt to convince people that they will soon have coverage for prescription drugs. We know that the vast majority will not, and it will be important to prove that to people often.

- Poor people outreach to those people most hurt by the actions of this administration: hurt by the refusal of Tom Delay, George Bush, et al to extend tax credits to poor families with children. Hurt by the refusal to provide health care to all Americans. Hurt by across-the-board cuts in programs of all types by the state and federal governments. Hurt by the slow economy and the refusal to raise the minimum wage.

- Uncommitted and Independently registered people who are sitting on the fence, waiting for a sign.

* We want to educate all people about the danger to the freedom Americans by the USA Patriot Act and other actions taken by the Bush Administration.

* We want to talk about the economic harm done by Bush through tax cuts for the rich, enormous federal budget deficits, bankruptcy of the states and other economic catastrophes.

* We want to expose the damage to the environment caused by Bush’s refusal to honor international treaties, by his administration’s weakening of federal clean air and clean water acts; by the exploitation of big oil interests formerly protected lands.

* And we want people to understand the long-term dangers of a Supreme Court made up of members of the hard right, who consistently demonstrate antipathy to civil rights, women’s rights, and the privacy rights of all Americans.

It is reported that President John F. Kennedy once said “Every one of us can make a difference and each of us must try”. And from Margaret Mead came this insight “Never doubt that a small group of committed individuals can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever does”.

In this spirit, we invite you to join us in working to defeat George W. Bush in 2004

On 20 July 2003, a group of Kindred Spirits met in an East Carolina backyard to eat, drink and TALK POLITICS.

Before the day was done, ALL had agreed on ONE GRAND COMMITMENT: To do everything humanly possible to defeat George W Bush in ‘04 and replace him with a sane Democrat.

This Blog then, is to aid in the realization of that commitment. Hopefully it will act as a cyber-place for Kindred Spirits to give and receive information on how best to prepare for the coming Battle Royal (Make no mistake folks, George W and his “Brain”- Karl Rove- will not go easily into the good night.)

So come on patriots, LETS GET READY TO RUUUUMBLE!
